Edwards, CO Horseback Riding

One of the best ways to really view the beautiful Colorado scenery is on horseback. Whether you choose an hourly ride, a cattle round-up ride or a multi-day hut-to-hut horseback ride you are sure to see beautiful aspen stands, gorgeous wildflower fields, secluded streams and breathtaking views. These sure-footed, gentle horses will take you on an unforgettable escape from the ordinary. Horseback rides are the perfect way to get up close and personal with all sorts of wildlife including, deer, elk, rabbits, porcupines, marmots and many types of birds. Don't forget to bring your camera. If your children are too young to ride a horse on a trail ride, many stables offer pony rides so young kids can get on the back of a "real" horse. They can also pet, brush or feed the pony treats. While you are staying in one the world-class resort setting of the Vail Valley, it may be hard to recall that this is the wild west frontier. One way to hearken back to the basics while on your visit is to ride the rugged mountainous terrain atop a horse as was done in the old days. Horseback riding in the Vail Valley ranges from mellow trail rides to cattle round-ups to sleigh-drawn adventures across the snowy landscape. If you plan to ride a horse, be sure you are comfortable with the logistics: bridle, saddle, stopping and going. Horses are gentle creatures, and especially when using a seasoned local vendor, you willll be given all the information you need to safely navigate a trail with your new four-legged friend. However, if you are especially timid around equine or unsure of your confidence atop a horse, consider a different activity. For a horseback riding adventure, chaps or other rub-proof pants may be recommended. Consult your vendor regarding footwear: but as a rule of thumb, wear sturdy, waterproof, boots or shoes. Your vendor will likely provide a helmet to children, but call ahead to be sure.
